         Dear Alice,

In your last e-mail you asked me about my school life on week days. I’d like to tell you about my classes. Normally I have 6 or 7 lessons a day, which last from 8:30 am till 2:00 pm. Today is Friday, and I only have 5 lessons. I use the short, 10-minute breaks between classes to chat with my friends or review my homework. The lunch break lasts for 20 minutes. After school I go to my English-language club, ply sports, or do drama for an hour or so.  Last week we had a party at the club. Everyone cooked and brought in a national dish of an English-speaking country(I cooked English Pie). My friend Dasha is a regular member of the Drama Society, where they stage plays and perform to the public. Andriy, our classmate, is a promising footballer and he trains every day. Such afternoon activities help us to make the most of our school days.

Please write to me about your school day.

The end of school year is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school-leavers. Many roads are open before them. Our state offers the young people a wide choice of vocational and technical schools, where they can develop their knowledge and talents.

All professions and trades are important and useful. But it is not easy to choose a profession out of more than two thousand existing in the world. As for me, I have made my choice. I study at Stryi Vocational Art School. I am a full-time first-year student. My future profession is …………… . I shall become a qualified worker. I think my future work will be useful and interesting.

There are several departments in our vocational school: hairdressing, woodworking, welding, restoring, visage, painting, forging(blacksmithing), and others. I am in the …………… department. My specialty is ……………. .

  1. A hairdresser is trained for work in hairdresser’s and barber’s shops.
  2. A carpenter is trained to work in woodworking industry, to make wooden objects, furniture, etc.

  6. A painter is trained to make beautiful pictures, canvases, and other pieces of art.
  7. A makeup artist is trained to make people beautiful, to work in beauty salons.
  8. A restore is trained to paint walls, ceilings, this trade is closely connected with an interior designer.

Our vocational school occupies three buildings. Our studies begin at half past eight, usually we have four double periods a day. At twelve o’clock we have a lunch break. There is a library with a reading-room at our vocational school. We do our homework there and read the fiction. It is open from 9 a. m. till 8 p. m. in term time. Our classrooms and workshops where we have practical training are large, light have modern equipment. There is also a large assembly hall and a gymnasium.

The academic session begins on the first of September and ends in June. Every day we attend lectures and have practical classes. Some students do well because they want to become good specialists. At the end of the term we take exams and try to pass them successfully. There is a hostel in our vocational school. Most of our students live in this hostel.
